Le Spleen de...

... whichever city or town you like.

Baudelaire's rants against urbanism are in a long tradition.
A fashion for hankering after a more innocent sylvan setting continues in our society, despite the fact that an increasing number of people live in cities.

They actually like the experience. While I enjoy playing with the imagery of alienation that made the films of the 1950's so impressive, the reality is that it is very difficult to be bored in an urban setting.

Ovid's complaints about being banished from Rome come down the centuries as a very reasonable reaction to being forced to live out in the wilds...
