Song of the Hoverfly

The Hoverfly, as far as I can remember, does not feature largely in literature. Bees and wasps appear in swarms as metaphors or messengers of the gods.

Hoverflies?

Nah!

But since so many readers prefer books about the natural world and the facts of life around them, there is one writer,

Henry Walter Bates who fills the gap in knowledge for anyone curious enough to look.

Those little yellow minxes are all ago in our garden at the moment.
