Ever so often I think about poetry.
Metaphors of alienation were fashionable post-WW2 and it may be time to catch up with what contemporary poets are writing now.
A project for Summer reading, perhaps?

Another way of seeking, god help me, the spirit of the age. What would today's poetry be> Modest, wry, ruefully humorous, with a spice of panic?

I listen to Roger McGough's Radio 4 programme, "Poetry Please" quite a lot.
The 19th Century poets seems so reassuring, somehow...
