Love and Life

Many years ago I saw a production of Anouilh's "Antigone" where the heroine was played by two different actresses.
This device was to highlight the change in the character about half way through the drama and it was very memorable.

People don't seem to talk about Anouilh much these days, but his sense of humour and obsessions with memory and desire have a lot to say about "la condition humaine" even today.

"Le Voyageur sans Bagages" is linked to the story of Anthelme Mangin a soldier whose story caught the imagination of a mourning nation. His true identity was finally revealed in real life, which is not the case in the play.
