I've decided, as a test of courage, to read "Lovesong" by Alex Miller, twice winner of the Miles Franklin Literary Award. I think I may need to get a copy of Damon Runyon's short stories as an antidote as well, as there is mention on the back cover that one of the male characters is "haunted" by an experience in Paris.
Are there no untraumatised works of fiction any more, I find myself wondering...
